In order to reorganize its ranks and adapt to the new Situation, the Secretariat of the Kurdistan Students Union decided to hold its Twelfth Congress. For this purpose, a preparatory Committee was formed and the month of July 2007 was set as the date for the Congress. In a short time, preparations for the Congress were completed by the preparatory Committee, and the members in the branch organizations rose for the Congress, but for several reasons, the Congress was not held on its scheduled date and was delayed for two months(1).
After full preparations, the Congress was held on September 23-24, 2007, in the Peshawa Hall in Erbil with the participation of 410 Delegates from all branch organizations, under the slogan (Knowledge and Struggle for a Free Nation - Towards a Bright Future) (1). It was attended by President Masoud Barzani, Adnan Mufti, Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament(2), Fazel Mirani, Secretary of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Nihad Hadi, Governor of Erbil, the French Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, and a number of other guests(3).
Some changes were made in this Congress regarding the terminology of the Kurdistan Students Union organizations, such as changing 'Branch' to 'Governorate Center' and 'Regional Committee' to 'District Branch' (4).
After reading the speeches of the participants and preparing the reports of the appointed committees, the Congress members voted to elect a new Secretariat as follows:

3- Jabbar Haji Abdullah - responsible for the Statistics and Planning Department, active Member of the Secretariat Bureau
4- Shadman Khalil - responsible for the Relations Department, active Member of the Secretariat Bureau
5- Karwan Mohammed Saber - responsible for the Media Department, active Member of the Secretariat Bureau
6- Erfan Aziz Aziz - responsible for the Sports and Arts Department, active Member of the Secretariat Bureau
7- Ahmed Bjar Fazel - responsible for the Student Affairs and Representation Department, active Member of the Secretariat Bureau
8- Shukriya Taimur Ahmed - responsible for the Culture and Training Department, active Member of the Secretariat Bureau
9- Shaima Mohammed Zaher - responsible for the Finance and Administration Department - active Member of the Secretariat Bureau
10- Hokar Bayez Saleh - Member of the Finance Department, Member of the Secretariat Bureau
11- Aryan Salah al-Din Asaad - Member of the Student Affairs and Representation Department, Member of the Secretariat Bureau
12 - Shavan Hamdi Hussein - Member of the Organizations Department, Member of the Secretariat Bureau.
