Rêbaz Hesen Rehman
At a time when global energy transition, changing geopolitical alliances, and intensifying competition are redefining the regional and international energy order, the Kurdistan Region also stands at the threshold of an important turning point. The scene shows that hydrocarbon revenues will remain important in the short term and long-term stability will depend on diversification strategies, reform, and strengthening institutions, then integration with global energy networks.
This study analyzes how the trend of decarbonization in Europe, the Gulf, and major economies is reshaping energy markets, creating both pressure and opportunity for the Kurdistan Region. It indirectly highlights the urgent need to restructure the ministries of Natural Resources, Electricity, Industry, and Foreign Relations to adapt to the new energy reality. The study shows that securing reliable export lines, good governance, and utilizing regional relationship initiatives can turn hydrocarbons into engines of resilience rather than weakness. Finally, the security of the Kurdistan Region depends on its ability to modernize its institutions, diversify its energy sources, and strengthen its position within the evolving global energy landscape.
