As a tradition of reorganization and renewal, in April 2001, after favorable conditions, the decision to hold the new congress of the Kurdistan Students Union was made, and for this purpose, the Preparatory Committee of the Congress was established at the Secretariat Office under the supervision of the Secretary of the Kurdistan Students Union. Between April 5 and April 20, 2001, this committee made all the preparations for the congress and the members of the congress were elected from the branches and district committees(1).
After the preparations, the congress started from July 28 to July 31, 2001, in Erbil under the slogan “Science – Peace – Innovation” with the presence of President Masoud Barzani First, President Masoud Barzani delivered his speech, and then the letter of Jalal Talabani, the first secretary of the Kurdistan Students Union and Secretary of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), the speech of Dr. Roj Nuri Shaways Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament, Nechirvan Barzani Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Government, the Minister of Education, the Governor of Erbil, and representatives of the Kurdistan Students Association were read(2). In this congress, 427 representatives of all organizations of the Kurdistan Students Union participated(3).
In the end, the representatives elected a new committee for the executive committee as follows:
