In the summer of 1963, the wars and attacks of the Iraqi government, led by Abdul Salam Arif, began extensively against various regions of Kurdistan. From the Baghdad radio station, they announced a statement rejecting dialogue with the Kurdish revolution leadership and issued a decision to restart a bloody war against the Kurd. Then, they began attacking and raiding cities, towns, and villages, and they started arresting, chasing, and massacring all those areas that were subjected to military attacks, as the Ba'athists interpreted that the regime of Abdul Karim Qasim before them had not fought the Kurd seriously, but that they could defeat the Kurdish revolution in a short time. Clearly, this reveals the fact that Abdul Salam Arif never believed in the Kurdish cause in Iraq, and this was reflected in his speeches and statements, as he did not recognize the Kurd and did not use the word Kurdistan.

Before the start of the war on May 20, 1963, the order of the General Command of the Army was issued to impose an economic blockade on Kurdistan. With the resumption of the war on June 10, very great crimes far from moral and human values were committed in many places. Clearly, during that period, the city of Sulaymaniyah had fallen under the pressure of the Iraqi Army's oppression more than other cities of Kurdistan. Whenever the army and military convoys were attacked by the Peshmerga from any side, they would come and vent their anger, rage, and revenge on the civilian population of Sulaymaniyah.

One of these violent and anti-human acts was the incident in Sulaymaniyah city by the order of Zaim Sadiq Mustafa, the commander of the 20th Brigade, who was known as the most brutal brigade in the history of Iraq and whose hands were red with the blood of thousands of the youth of this Country. Sulaymaniyah city was a burning ember in the face of its enemies. In that massacre campaign, five thousand civilian citizens of the city were arrested, and 86 of them were selected and buried alive. Their only crime was that the Ba'athists had brought a picture of Mustafa Barzani the leader of the Kurdish revolution, to the group of arrested people and ordered them to insult and disrespect him, but they were not prepared to accept that act in any way. Clearly, one of the people among the arrested answered them and told them that if you are prepared to disrespect your own president, then we will obey you, so the Ba'athists did not spare them and massacred them.
