Judge Zakia Ismail Haqi Mirza Ismail, Zakia Ismail joined the ranks of The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in 1951. On December 11, 1952, she founded the Kurdistan Women Union (KWU). In 1953, she became the secretary of the Kurdistan Women's Union. In 1970, she was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the KDP by the delegates in the eighth Congress. In 1974 she joined the ranks of the Peshmerga forces.

Biography

Judge Zakia Ismail Haqi Mirza Ismail, also known as Zakia Faily, was born on 18/11/1939 in Baghdad to a Faily Kurdish rich family. She completed her primary, secondary, and high school education in Baghdad. Then she was admitted to the College of Law.

In 1957, she received a degree in law from Baghdad University with honors. In 1966, she received a degree in business administration from a Swiss university. In 1972, he received her master's degree in law from Baghdad University with honors. She received her doctorate in law from an American university. One month before the July 14, 1958 coup, she was appointed as a judge in the Baghdad Executive Office. She was dismissed on June 6, 1962, for political activities and demanding the Kurds’ rights and prohibited from working as a lawyer.

She was released from prison in 1964 and worked as a lawyer. On Saturday, June 19, 1971, she visited Erbil to receive the orphanage building. On April 28, 1974, her family was deported to the liberated areas after the Iraqi government seized her house. In 1974, she was a member of the supervisory committee of the refugee camp in the Kingdom of Iran. In 1975, after the collapse of the September Revolution, she was displaced to the Kingdom of Iran and returned to Iraq after a while.

After the Kurdistan Uprising in 1991, she moved to the liberated areas. In 1993, she moved to the United States. She died on Monday 23 August 2021, in a hospital in the United States after a long struggle with illness. she was fluent in Kurdish, Arabic, English, and Persian.

Zakia’s Striving Record 

Zakia Ismail joined the ranks of The KDP in 1951. On December 11, 1952, she founded KWU. In 1953, she became the secretary of the Kurdistan Women's Union. In 1954, she became a member Kurdistan Democratic Party – Iraq.

In 1958, she, as the head of the delegation of the KWU, visited Zaim Abdulkarim Qasim (1914-1963) at his headquarters in Baghdad. In 1959, when she was a member of the committee of the fifth branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, she visited President Mustafa Barzani (1903-1979) in Baghdad to welcome him from the Soviet Union.

On December 16, 1959, she was elected as a member of the general board of the Kurdish Victory Club in Baghdad. On March 21, 1959, she participated in the Newroz celebrations in Khanaqin town, which is organized by the Democratic Party Kurdistan-Union. In 1959, she was a delegate to the Fourth Congress of the KDP in Baghdad. In 1959, she was a member of the High Monitoring and Inspection Committee of the KDP in the Fourth Congress. In 1959, she participated in the delegation of the KWU to visit Zaim Abdulkarim Qasim, who was wounded in an assassination plot.

In the summer of 1959, a meeting of the KWU was held in her house to prepare for the official license from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior. In 1960, she was a delegate to the 5th Congress of the KDP in Baghdad.

In 1960, she was one of the organizers of a picnic to Azmer Mountain in Slemani, which was organized for the Women Union and Kurdistan Student Union participated Members. In 1960, she participated in the introduction ceremony of Kurdish students in the College of Education of Baghdad University.

In 1963, she was a member of the KDP delegation to negotiate with the Iraqi government. On June 8, 1963, she was arrested with her children and husband by the General Security Agency in Baghdad and detained at Fazal police station, and later imprisoned in the Central prison. She was released from prison in 1964. In the same year, she supervised the secret organizations of the Kurdistan Women's Union. In 1970, she read a speech at the eighth congress of the Kurdistan Women's Union.

In 1970 by the delegates of the Congress, she was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the KDP in the Ninth Congress. She became the second woman who was promoted to the rank of member of the leadership of the KDP. On September 25, 1970, by the delegates of the congress she was elected as a Secretary of the KWU in the 1st Congress. On July 17, 1970, she participated in the demonstration on behalf of the KWU on the second anniversary of the victory of the Ba'athist Arab Socialist Party in Baghdad.

On August 15, 1970, she published an article in the Arabic-language newspaper, Al-Takhi. In the mid-1970s, he was appointed by the KDP High Committee for the General Census as a member of the Information and Warning Committee for the Iraqi General Census so that the authorities would not deceive people by recording them as non-Kurdish.

On April 18, 1971, she was re-elected as the president of the KWU in the 2nd Congress. On April 25, 1971, she was appointed as the president of the KWU and the vice president of the Iraqi Women's Union. In late April 1971, she attended the Seventh Congress of Arab Women in the Republic of Tunisia. In April 1971, she met with Ludmila Balakhovskaya, secretary of the Soviet Women's Committee, to discuss bilateral relations and joint cooperation. on May 3, 1971, she was elected as the president of the Women's Union at the meeting of the High Executive Committee.

On Sunday, May 30, 1971, accompanied by Habib Faily (1931-2013), she received a delegation from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Bulgaria in Baghdad. She represented the KWU at the opening of the seventh Congress of the Kurdistan Students Union. On Sunday, June 20, 1971, at the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Youth Union in Baghdad accompanied by Yadullah Faily, she received a delegation from the Soviet Youth Union.

On Tuesday, June 22, 1971, she received Saddam Hussein (1937-2006), also known as Saddam Tikrit, the vice president of Iraq, at the headquarters of the KWU in Baghdad. On August 16, 1971, she participated in the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the KDP at the headquarters of the fifth branch committee in Baghdad. On February 2, 1972, she participated in the opening ceremony of the fourth congress of the Kurdistan Teachers Union in Erbil. She delivered a speech. as the secretary of the Kurdistan Women's Union. 

On February 12-20, 1972, on behalf of the Kurdistan Women's Union, she participated and gave a speech at the 15th Congress of the Kurdish Students Association in Bucharest, Romania. On March 8, 1972, her speech on the occasion of International Women's Day was broadcast on Prague Radio. On Friday, April 28, 1972, accompanied by foreign delegations, and guests of the third congress of the Kurdistan Women's Union, she met with President Mustafa Barzani at Haji Omeran headquarters in Erbil province.

On April 29, 1972, she was elected as the secretary of the KWU(KWU) for the third time in the Third Congress. On Saturday, April 22, 1972, she supervised the organization of the fourth Congress of the KWU Iraqi President in Baghdad. In 1972, she supported the domestication of Iraqi oil. On July 29, 1972, she participated in the Second World Women's Congress in Baghdad as a representative of the Kurdistan Women's Union. On July 8, 1972, she was appointed as the president of the KWU Participation in the opening ceremony of the second congress of the Kurdistan Democratic Youth Union in Shaqlawa town in the province of Erbil.

On November 11-14, 1972, she participated in the conference on oil as a weapon organized by the National Council for Peace and Solidarity in Baghdad. On Monday, February 5, 1973, she delivered a speech at the fourth congress of the Kurdistan Teachers Union in Erbil as the president of the Kurdistan Women's Union. On Tuesday, March 27, 1973, she participated in the opening of the fifth Congress of the General Women Union of Iraq in Baghdad, and she delivered a speech on behalf of the Kurdistan Women's Union.

On Wednesday, March 28, 1973, by delegates to the Fifth Congress of the General Union of Iraqi Women, she was elected as the first deputy. On June 9, 1973, in the memory “Shahidi Kurd", she gave a speech at the headquarters of the Secretariat of the Kurdistan Democratic Youth Union as the president of the Kurdistan Women's Union. On October 31, 1973, she was a delegate to the Congress of Peace and Support Forces in Moscow, and she was a member of the Committee on Social Issues and Human Rights.

In 1974, she joined the ranks of the Peshmerga forces. On Wednesday, July 17, 2000, she received a letter of condolence from President Massoud Barzani.  on the occasion of the death of her husband, Engineer Yasin Mohammed Karimi, who died on Saturday, July 15, 2000, and was also a member of the committee to support the 50 founders of the KDP in 1960. In 2003, during the fall of Saddam Hussein (1937-2006), also known as Saddam Tikrit, she was appointed as the legal advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Justice. On December 15, 2005, she was elected to the Iraqi National Assembly on the list of the United Iraqi Coalition.
