Izzat Sulaiman Beg Dargali, known as Mam Izzat Beg, was born in 1932 in the village of Dargala, part of the Rawandiz district of Erbil Governorate. After the Barzanis, as a result of the Battle of Maidan Morik and the failure of the First Barzan Revolution (1931-1932), headed to Eastern Kurdistan, on September 11, 1945, Izzat Sulaiman Beg and his family went with the Barzanis to Mahabad. After the declaration of the Republic of Kurdistan in 1946 and the participation of the Barzanis in the Republic, by the order of General Mustafa Barzani and President Qazi Muhammad, he was sent to Tabriz as a student to study there. He was in Tabriz with Ahmad Blurian, Ahmad Salihi, Babazada, his brother Rahman, Hejar Mukriyani and Muhsin Salih Abdulaziz Katani. After the collapse of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he was forced to return to Mahabad with other Kurdish students. After the fall of the Republic of Kurdistan, his father and a brother went with General Mustafa Barzani to the Soviet Union, and he, being 15 years old, returned to Iraq with Sheikh Ahmad Barzani and the other returnees, and was detained for three months with the Barzanis in the town of Diana.
After his release, Izzat Sulaiman Beg returned to the village of Dargala. Later, because of Saeed Qazzaz, who was the Governor of Mosul and had known his father, he was made responsible for the workers building the Hamilton Road between the town of Diana and Haji Omaran. During that period, due to his proximity to the Communists who were active in that area, he joined the National Liberation Party (Taharur Watani), which was affiliated with the Iraqi Communist Party.
In 1963, after the Ba'ath Party took power in Iraq, Izzat Sulaiman Beg and his armed men, through Colonel Aziz Akrayi , who was the Commander of the Peshmerga of the Spilik front, came to General Mustafa Barzani and joined the Aylul Revolution. Later, he and the group of armed men who were with him participated in the battles of Spilik, Mount Korak, and Handren. He was then made Commander of Battalion 4 of the Balak Force.
In 1975, after the failure of the Aylul Revolution, he and his family were displaced to the Country of Iran and headed to Eastern Kurdistan. Initially, he was in the city of Mahabad and later went to the city of Karaj. When General Mustafa Barzani was sent from Iran to the Country of America for the second time on June 19, 1976, for the purpose of treating his illness, Izzat Sulaiman Beg, upon his own request and receiving the approval of General Mustafa Barzani, returned to Iraq.
At the request of the Iraqi government in 1978, he went to the Country of America so that he could see General Mustafa Barzani and perhaps be prepared to hold talks with Iraq. The second time, at the request of Barzan Tikriti, he went to meet the leader Masoud Barzani for the purpose of starting dialogue between the revolution and the Ba'ath government. On March 27, 2011, he was awarded the Barzani the Immortal Medal by President Barzani. He passed away on January 30, 2021, and was buried in the cemetery of Dargala village in the presence of a large number of people.
